Local Charity Beneficiaries

  • Depaul

Depaul Ukraine supports thousands of homeless people each year, including those displaced by conflict in the east of the country.

Set up in 2007, Depaul works across Ukraine’s three largest cities: Kiev, Kharkiv and Odessa. Projects are varied to meet a full range of needs – from essential street outreach offering food and first aid, to supported accommodation providing long-term intensive support towards moving out of homelessness for good.

Depaul Ukraine runs a series of specialist projects too. These include an accommodation centre for those who have fled conflict in the east; a house for homeless single mothers and their children; and targeted work in prisons and hospitals for those at risk of homelessness. Depaul also runs a project for disabled orphans in western Ukraine.

Ukraine is one of Europe’s poorest countries and the ongoing conflict has exacerbated poverty. Temperatures plunge to -20C in winter, making conditions life-threatening for those living on the street. Depaul addresses this crisis and is one of the largest and most respected Ukrainian charities, having pioneered a series of projects for homeless people.

You can find out more about Depaul’s work in Ukraine on the English-language Facebook page or on the Ukrainian-language website.
