Dr Alice Thompson
Alice co-founded Social Bite at the age of 21, with a passion to make the world a better place. She has overseen Social Bite's expansin to the respected, national scale social enterprise it is today in Scotland and a registered Director of the organisation.
Alice is particularly passionate about inspiring young people to feel that they too can tackle social issues they care about in a real way through the power of business. In 2018 she created Wee Sleep Out, a fundraising youth engagement programme for under 18s, which includes educational workshops which are provided throughout the country for schools and youth groups. Wee Sleep Out gives under 18’s a seat at the table for the national conversation on homelessness in Scotland, of which Social Bite is at the forefront of. She uses her personal experiences, including the experience of hating school, to motivate young people and encourage them to think outside of the box about social issues, potential solutions and their own take on life.
Following the success of its pilot year (2018) which exceeded expectations, Wee Sleep Out launches for 2019 bigger and better and has inspired the World’s Little Sleep Out – of which Alice is now the valued Advisor. Alice received an Honorary Degree of Doctorate from Queen Margaret University in 2018 for her outstanding commitment to public service, and accepted her second Honorary Degree from the University of Glasgow earlier in 2019, for her major contribution to Social Business.
